You’ll be really digging the dirt when you get to know Down The Lees. The Okanagan Valley, British Columbia-based band released their new EP Dirt earlier this month. It’s a real achievement for the trio, a genre-bending exploration of the band’s musical tastes and influences. The post-noise-rock group is confidently and capably led by front woman Laura Lee Schultz. Schultz has been the focal point along the whole way, with Down The Lees originally starting as just a solo project for the talented singer and songwriter.

The members of BC noise rockers Down the Lees each have their own must-haves on tour. The ever-practical drummer Andy Ashley comes armed with tools and extension cords, while the evidently more sentimental bassist Chris Carlson brings jewel box full of gems that his daughter gave him for good luck. As for singer-guitarist Laura Lee Schultz, "I bring my Evil Dead lunch box, which I have had since the '90s, to use as our merch cash register." That's where your money will end up when you buy the ominous, thundering new EP Dirt.

This band’s journey is as untamed as the landscape they hail from, stretching from solo project days in Vancouver, through Belgian upheavals, and back to the rugged terrain of Canada. Their latest EP, “Dirt,” is an interesting, alternative and gritty proof of their tenacity. Produced by Jesse Gander at Raincity Recorders and mastered by Blake Bickel, “Dirt” captures the unpolished, visceral energy of Down The Lees, without loosing its well-thought and interestingly crafter structure.
